Guayaquil airport (GYE)

José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport, opened on July 27, 2006, concentrates, together with Quito Airport, most flights in the country, and is considered one of the best in Latin America. It operates with flights to the entire continent and some European destinations.

The airport is located 5 km (3 miles) to the northeast of downtown Guayaquil.

The airport has a bank (Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm and from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm), ATMs, currency exchange bureaus (24 hours a day), VIP rooms, mobile phone services and Wi-Fi access free of charge.

Food and Drinks- Throughout the terminal there are several restaurants, confectioneries, coffee shops, fast food outlets and icecream stores, with several options open 24 hours a day.
Shopping- There are duty-free shops both before and after the security control. There are also stores selling handicrafts, souvenirs, books, sweets, clothing.
Baggage- Trolleys are available in the Arrivals and Departures Halls and next to the luggage belts. They are free of charge except in the International Arrivals area, where you have to pay USD2.00. Secure wrapping in the Departures Hall, from 2:00 am to 10:00 pm. 24-hour left luggage service in the Arrivals Hall (Tel +593 4 216 9246). The lost and found office is operated by the Security Department (Tel +593 4 216 9169 ext. 1148).

Bus - 1.3 km (0.8 miles) away from the airport is located the Jaime Roldós Aguilera Terminal, where you can make connections throughout the country.
On the other hand, Vansertrans (Tel +593 4 216 9294) has offices in the International Arrivals Hall and provides minibus services 24 hours a day.

Metro - Opposite the enclosure, and linked through walkways, there is a station from Metrovía (Tel +593 4 259 7680), where you can board the troncal 2 service, which travels the city from south to north, from 25 de Julio Terminal to Río Daule Terminal, stopping at Mall del Sur, Viejo Cangrejal, Plaza de Artes, Mercado Cuatro Manzanas and Plaza del Centenario. Taxi - The official operator is Cooperativa de Transporte Taxis Aeropuerto Guayaquil (Tel +593 4 216 9141 / 9142), with vehicles available around the clock in front of the National and International Arrivals gates. Journey time to the city centre is around 25 minutes.

 
 

There are several international hotels close to the airport, some of which offer transportation to and from the enclosure.
