Rio de Janeiro Galeão Airport (GIG)

Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport, also known as Galeão International Airport and opened on January 20, 1977, is the most important in Rio de Janeiro and the busiest in the country after Guarulhos Airport. It operates with domestic and international flights to destinations in the American Continent, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Open 24 hours a day and linked through travelators.
Annual passenger traffic: 16.2 million passengers went through it in 2017.
Tel: +55 21 3004 6050. There are information counters on the ground floor and the first floor of Terminal 1 and on the second floor of Terminal 2. They operate around the clock. There are also interactive screens throughout the enclosure.

The airport is located 20 km (13 miles) to the north of Rio de Janeiro.

Car rental search

Bus - There are several services from the airport to different locations. Stops are located next to the Arrivals Halls of both terminals. Line 915 - Bonsucesso; 922 - Tubiacanga; 924 - Bananal; 925 - Bancários; 2018 & 2918 - Alvorada; 2101 & 2145 - Santos Dumont Airport; 760 & 761 - Charitas.
There is also a rapid transit bus (BRT - Tel +55 800 886 1000) that runs around the clock and has two lines. TransCarioca Expressa links the enclosure with Alvorada Terminal, situated in Barra da Tijuca, also stopping at Terminal do Fundão, Vicente de Carvalho metro station and Madureira. The TransCarioca line stops at 47 stations and 5 terminals throughout its route. Buses leave from Gate D, in Terminal 2.

Metro - The nearest station is located in Vicente de Carvalho. You can get there through the BRT transport. From there you can make connections to the North and South areas of the city. Line 2 links Pavuna with Botafogo, also stopping at Coelho Neto, Inhaúma, Maracanã, Uruguaiana and Flamengo. Services operate from Monday to Saturday between 5:00 am and 0:00 am, and from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm on Sundays and holidays. More information: Tel +55 800 595 1111.

Taxi - Outside the Arrivals area of both terminals there are regular cabs from Aerotáxi (Tel +55 21 2467 1500) and Aerocoop (Tel +55 21 3078 5050). There are also special taxis from Coopatur (Tel +55 21 3885 1000), Cootramo (Tel +55 21 3976 9944), Coopertramo (Tel +55 21 2209 9292), Transcoopas (Tel +55 21 2209 1555) and Transcootur (Tel +55 21 2590 2220) outside the Arrivals Halls of Terminal 2. The trip to the city centre takes around 30 minutes.

Public transport fares and schedules

 

The enclosure has covered and outdoor spaces for short- and long-term parking. Facilities operate 24 hours a day and offer a mechanical aid service, security staff and CCTV. Piso Premium - Quick access to Terminal 2, with wider bays and connected to the VIP lounges.
Econômico - Outdoor car park near Terminal 1.
E4/E5 - Ideal for motorcycle parking.

 

Facilities include lifts, ramps, wide automatic doors, adapted restrooms and reserved parking spaces. The airport staff can provide wheelchair transport by request.
