La Paz airport (LPB)

El Alto International Airport, opened on June 18, 1965, serves the Bolivian capital of La Paz and is one of the busiest in the country. It concentrates most domestic flights and operates with international destinations in South America and the United States.

Annual passenger traffic: 1.3 million passengers went through it in 2016.

The airport is located 14 km (8.5 miles) southwest from La Paz.

The airport has ATMs, currency exchange bureau (9:00 am to 6:00 pm), post offices, charging stations and Wi-Fi access free of charge.

Food and Drinks- There is a restaurant in the main hall and coffee shops in the national and international pre-boarding areas.
Shopping- In the international pre-boarding sector there are duty-free shops, in addition to stores selling handicrafts, sweets, jewellery, books, magazines, liquor.
Baggage- Left luggage service next to the entrance to the main hall. The lost and found office is located in the baggage reclaim area.
Other Services- Travel agencies, medical service, pharmacy.


Bus - Line 212 from Cotranstur (Tel +591 282 1331) travels from the airport's parking lot to the main bus station and Plaza Isabel La Católica, in the city centre, going through El Prado and Sopocachi. The trip takes approximately 45 minutes.

Taxi - Ranks are located outside the Arrivals Hall. Authorized taxi companies at the enclosure are Taxis Aeropuerto 78 (Tel +591 7875 2674) and Taxis Rafael Pabón (Tel +591 281 1155). It is advised to agree on a fare before boarding the cab. Travel time to the city centre is around 20-30 minutes.


In the central hall of the airport there are cabins from Sleepbox Onkel Inn (Tel +591 282 9434). You can find different options in the city centre and arrange transfers with the hotel itself. There are two parking areas inside the grounds.

Uncovered Parking - Located outside the terminal, free and available for short stays.
Covered Parking - Reserved for long stays, situated on the west wing, with security around the clock.


Ramps and adapted toilets are available. Children between 5 and 12 years old travelling alone will be supervised by the staff from the air company. Passengers requiring wheelchairs should request them at the counter of their airline.
