San Diego airport (SAN)

San Diego International Airport, opened on August 16, 1928, is the third largest in California and one of the busiest in the country. It operates with domestic flights (including Hawaii) and some international destinations in Mexico, Canada, Europe and Japan.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Terminals 1 and 2. Open 24 hours a day. A free shuttle service (Airport Loop) transports passengers between the terminals around the clock.
Airlines: Terminal 1 (Alaska Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines); Terminal 2 (Air Canada, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, British Airways, Condor, Delta Air Lines, Edelweiss Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin America, WestJet).
Annual passenger traffic: More than 20.7 million passengers went through it in 2016.

The airport is located 3 km (2 miles) northwest from San Diego city centre.

Bus - Line 992 from Metropolitan Transit System (Tel +1 619 557 4555) travels to downtown San Diego, America Plaza and City College from 5:00 am to 11:30 pm. It operates every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 min. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The fare is USD2.25 and journey time is 20-30 min. In the city centre you can make connections to other bus, trolley and train routes.
On the other hand, a shuttle service connects the enclosure with Middletown Station, where you can board the trolley Green Line heading for the city centre (50 min.; USD2.50), Seaport Village, Old Town, Fashion Valley, Mission Valley Center, Rio Vista, Qualcomm Stadium, Grantville, Grossmont, El Cajon and Santee.
Across from the terminals you can hire shared services to different locations in the area: Advanced Shuttle (Tel +1 800 719 3499), Cloud 9 Shuttle / Super Shuttle (Tel +1 800 974 8885), EZ Ride (Tel +1 800 777 0585), Sea Breeze Shuttle (Tel +1 619 297 7463).

Train - From the station located in the city centre depart trains from Coaster (Tel +1 760 966 6500) to Old Town, Sorrento Valley, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Oceanside. The trip takes approximately 1 hour and fares vary from USD4.00 to USD5.50.
There are also Amtrak services (Tel +1 800 872 7245) to Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.

Taxi - Ranks are situated in front of both terminals and the journey to the city centre takes 10-15 minutes. The airport has ATMs, currency exchange bureaus (5:00 am to 8:00 pm), VIP lounges, public telephones and free Wi-Fi access for 2 hours. The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, situated in the vicinity, has a business center and meeting rooms.

Food and Drinks- There is a great variety of regional and international restaurants, bars, pizza stores, fast food outlets, confectioneries and coffee shops inside both terminals. Ryan Bros. Coffee, in Terminal 1, and Einstein Bros. Bagels, in Terminal 2, are open 24 hours a day.
Shopping- Newsagents, bookstores, gift shops, electronics, accessories, apparel, sweets, toys, sport goods, jewellery. Duty-free articles next to gate 21, in Terminal 2.
Baggage- Luggage trolleys available throughout the enclosure for USD4.00 (free for international passengers). The lost and found office is located on the lower level of Terminal 2 and operates between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm (Tel +1 619 400 2140).
Other Services- Bicycle lockers, nursing areas, art exhibitions, prayer room, spas.

 

The enclosure has several parking options for short and long stays, with security staff around the clock. Valet parking service in front of the terminals. In addition, there is a passenger pick-up zone (Cell Phone Lot) which is free for 60 minutes. Rates

Facilities include adapted telephones and toilets, courtesy carts, reserved parking spaces, elevators. Buses operating inside and outside the airport are accessible for passengers with reduced mobility.
