Raleigh-Durham airport (RDU)

Raleigh-Durham International Airport, opened on May 1, 1943, serves Wake County, in the state of North Carolina. It operates with domestic and international flights to Canada, Mexico and Europe.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, open 24 hours a day and connected through courtesy shuttles and a moving walkway.
Airlines: Terminal 1 (Southwest Airlines); Terminal 2 (Air Canada Express, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, United Airlines).
Annual passenger traffic: More than 11 million passengers went through it in 2016.
Tel: +1 919 840 2123. There are information desks in the baggage reclaim hall of both terminals. They operate from 7:00 am to 0:00 am (Terminal 1) and from 5:30 am to 0:00 am (Terminal 2). There are also volunteers and courtesy phones throughout the enclosure.

 

The airport is located 14 km (9 miles) northeast from the city of Morrisville.

All services operate from outside the luggage recollection areas of both terminals.

Bus - Line 100 from GO Triangle (Tel +1 919 485 7433) has a fare of USD2.25 and links the airport with the Regional Transit Center (where you can catch services to other locations, such as Durham and Chapel Hill), Morrisville Outlet Mall, Meredith College and downtown Raleigh (around 35 minutes journey). It operates Mondays through Fridays between 6:40 am and 10:40 pm, Saturdays from 7:10 am to 11:10 pm and Sundays from 7:10 am to 7:10 pm.
Greyhound (Tel +1 800 231 2222) provides long-distance transportation from the stations located in downtown Raleigh and Durham.
There are also shared services provided by A&P Shuttle (Tel +1 919 264 2025 / 641 2045), Sky Shuttle (Tel +1 919 599 8100), Skylink Shuttle (Tel +1 919 233 3952 / 855 759 8267), You2RDU (Tel +1 855 768 5222) and White Glove Transportation (Tel +1 919 424 9788 / 855 948 4621).

Train - In downtown Raleigh there is an Amtrak station (Tel +1 800 872 7245), from where trains depart for New York, Charlotte, Washington DC, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and Miami.

Taxi - RDU Taxi (Tel +1 919 840 7277) is the exclusive, official airport operator. Fares to downtown Durham and Raleigh are around USD35.00 and the trip takes about 30 minutes.

The airport has ATMs, currency exchange bureaus (7:00 am to 8:00 pm), mailbox, VIP lounges, charging stations, public telephones, internet kiosks and free Wi-Fi access for 45 minutes (in addition to a pre-paid premium service). There are three conference rooms at the airport, accessed through the ticketing lobby.

Food and Drinks- There are bars, restaurants, fast food outlets and coffee shops, most inside Terminal 2. Starbucks and Sheetz are open 24 hours a day.
Shopping- A duty-free shop next to gate C15, in Terminal 2. Other options include electronics, accessories, newspapers, books, gifts, toys, sport goods, jewellery, cosmetics, clothing, flowers.
Baggage- Carts available for USD4.00 in the luggage recollection halls, in front of the terminals and the car parks. The lost and found office is handled by the airport police (Tel +1 919 840 7553).
Other Services- Shoeshine, baby changing facilities, chapel, spas, pharmacy.

ParkRDU Central - 7-storey facility situated between the terminals, with covered and outdoor spaces. Premium bays on level 1.
ParkRDU Economy 3 & 4 - Economy, covered car parks, connected to the terminals through free shuttles.

 

Facilities include lifts, designated parking spaces, relief areas for service animals and adapted telephones. Accessible cabs are also available. You can request wheelchairs from your airline before your arrival or at the airport's information desks.
