Pittsburgh International Airport, opened on July 18, 1946, is one of the largest in the state of Pennsylvania. It operates with numerous domestic destinations and international seasonal flights to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Landside Terminal and Airside Terminal, open 24 hours a day and linked to each other through an underground people mover.
Annual passenger traffic: Around 8.3 million passengers went through it in 2016.
Tel: +1 412 472 3525. There are information counters on floor 2 of the Landside Terminal and on floor 3 of the central core (6:00 am to 9:30 pm), and white courtesy phones are available in several places. Tourist information on floor 1 of the Landside Terminal (Tel +1 412 472 5119).

 

The airport is located 16 km (10 miles) to the northwest of Pittsburgh city centre.

Bus - The 28X Airport Flyer from Port Authority (Tel +1 412 442 2000) leaves approximately every 30 minutes from 4:30 am to 0:00 am from outside door 6, in the baggage reclaim hall. Tickets cost USD2.75 and buses run to Robinson Town Centre, Bell Station, Idlewood, Crafton, Ingram, Sheraden, downtown Pittsburgh, Oakland and Duquesne, Carlow, Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon universities. Journey time to the city centre is around 45 min.
SuperShuttle (Tel +1 800 258 3826) provides shared transport services to Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Indiana, Washington and Westmoreland counties. Other private operators offer transfers to Clarion, Crawford, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango counties, and the cities of Morgantown and West Virginia, among others.

Taxi - Vehicles from Checker Cab (Tel +1 412 664 5600), Cranberry Taxi (Tel +1 412 481 8387), Yellow Cab (Tel +1 412 321 8100) and zTrip (Tel +1 412 777 7777) available outside the terminals. The trip to downtown Pittsburgh takes around 30 minutes.

The airport has ATMs, currency exchange bureaus (1:00 am to 4:00 pm), post office, VIP lounges, charging stations and Wi-Fi access free of charge. The Hyatt Regency hotel, located inside the grounds, provides business and conference facilities.

Food and Drinks- Inside the enclosure there are numerous restaurants, bars, fast food outlets and cafés.
Shopping- Most options are found at the Airmall area, in the Airside Terminal, and include stores selling clothing, electronics, souvenirs, accessories, perfumes, cosmetics, toys, jewellery, sport goods, books, newspapers and magazines. Duty-free goods in concourse C, floor 3.
Baggage- Trolleys available throughout the terminals and the car parks. Lost and found service at the information booths from Sunday to Friday between 6:00 am and 9:30 pm and Saturdays from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm (Tel +1 412 472 3525).
Other Services- Nursing room, chapel, children's play area, massage parlour, spa, art exhibits.

 

Several short- and long-term parking sectors are available near the Landside Terminal. Valet parking service around the clock on the lower level of the garage. There is also a passenger pick-up zone (Cell Phone Lot), free for 1 hour. More information: Tel +1 412 472 5050. Rates

Short Term Parking - Multi-storey facility connected to the Landside Terminal through a covered moving walkway. Charging stations for electric vehicles on levels 2 and 3.
Long Term Parking - Areas with easy access to a moving walkway to the terminal.
Extended Economy Parking - Remote and economy sectors for long stays, with continuous free shuttle service. The first hour has no charge.
Gold Key Lot - Reserved spaces for frequent flyers.

 

Facilities include reserved parking spaces, adapted telephones and restrooms, a relief area for service animals, ramps and elevators. Porter and wheelchairs services can be arranged by contacting your airline or the information desks. Accessible transportation is available to Pittsburgh and Allegheny County through ACCESS (Tel +1 412 562 5353), from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, with fares of USD2.25 to USD4.50.
