Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, opened on May, 1946, is the largest in the state of Louisiana and one of the safest in the country. It operates with domestic flights and international destinations in Canada, Mexico, Panama, Dominican Republic, the United Kingdom and Germany.

The airport is located 16 km (10 miles) to the west of New Orleans.

The airport has a bank (Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm), currency exchange bureau (Sunday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, the rest of the days from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm), ATMs, post office, charging stations, public telephones and Wi-Fi access free of charge. In the West Terminal there is a business center with fax and photocopying services, while the nearby Hilton hotel has meeting rooms. The Delta Sky Club lounge is situated next to gate 4 of concourse D and opens from 4:45 am to 7:15 pm (Saturdays until 6:30 pm); it provides Wi-Fi, charging stations, reading material, food, bar (access with Delta Sky Club membership, first or business class passengers from Delta Air Lines and SkyTeam airlines, or by paying at the door - USD59.00).

Food and Drinks- There are several restaurants, fast food outlets, coffee shops and bars scattered throughout the enclosure.
Shopping- Duty-free articles next to the security checkpoint. Throughout the terminals there are newsagents, gift shops, bookstores, electronics, clothing.
Baggage- The lost and found office is situated on the upper level of concourse C and operates Mondays through Fridays between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm (Tel +1 504 303 7790).

Bus - Line E2 (Airport-Downtown Express) from Jefferson Transit (Tel +1 504 818 1077) departs from the second floor, outside concourse C, to the city centre, with a journey time of approximately 50 minutes. Tickets cost USD2.00 and stops include MA Green Shopping Center, Severn, Carrolton and Tulane.
Route 202 (Airport Express) from RTA (Tel +1 504 248 3900) has a fare of USD1.50 and runs every 70 min. to Elk Place and Union Passenger Terminal.
Airport Shuttle New Orleans (Tel +1 866 596 2699 / 504 522 3500) provides shared transport to hotels in the central business district of New Orleans, with a frequency of 30 min. and a fare of USD24.00. There are reservation counters on the lower level of the baggage reclaim area.
In addition, at the downtown bus station you can board Greyhound services (Tel +1 504 525 9371 / 800 231 2222) to destinations throughout the country.

Train - The nearest train station is located in Union Station, in the city centre. There are Amtrak schedules (Tel +1 215 856 7924 / 800 872 7245) to Chicago, Memphis, New York, Atlanta, San Antonio, Tucson, Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Taxi - Cabs operate from the lower level, outside the luggage recollection hall. The trip to New Orleans central business district takes 20-30 minutes and costs around USD36.00.
