Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, opened on February 22, 1930, serves the entire area of the city, the state of Michigan and locations in neighbouring states, as it is one of the busiest in the country and the world. It operates with domestic flights and international destinations in Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, Brazil, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East.

Number of Terminals - 2 - North Terminal and McNamara Terminal, open 24 hours a day. A free shuttle bus connects the terminals to each other and the Westin hotel approximately every 10 minutes. The ExpressTram train travels inside McNamara Terminal, from one end to the other.
Annual passenger traffic: Around 34.4 million passengers went through it in 2016.

The airport is located 32 km (20 miles) southwest from the city.

Bus - SMART (Tel +1 866 962 5515) provides services to and from the airport headed to the city centre and destinations throughout Southeastern Michigan. Journey time to downtown Detroit is 40-50 minutes and tickets cost USD2.00. Line 125 runs to Taylor Meijer, Southland Center, Fort Street and Larned. Bus 280 travels to Garden City Hospital, stopping at Merriman, Middlebelt and Warren.
The AirRide service from Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (Tel +1 734 707 7247) offers transportation to the Ann Arbor and East Lansing area, with available connections to locations inside Washtenaw County. The trip takes 2 hours and the fare is USD12.00. Buses depart from the ground transportation center, on the lower level of both terminals.

Taxi - Cabs are available around the clock in the ground transportation center of each terminal. Official operators are Metro Cars (Tel +1 800 456 1701) and Metro Cab (Tel +1 734 997 6500). The trip to the city centre takes around 45 minutes.


Car rental offices are found at the northeast corner of the airport, to which run courtesy shuttle buses from each company.

The airport has currency exchange bureaus, ATMs, VIP rooms, public telephones and Wi-Fi access free of charge. The Westin hotel, situated inside McNamara Terminal, provides executive facilities, a business center and meeting rooms.

Food and Drinks- Throughout both terminals there is a wide offer of restaurants, fast food outlets, coffee shops and bars, and there are also vending machines.
Shopping- Both terminals, but especially McNamara Terminal, have duty-free shops, electronics, accessories, sweets, souvenirs, apparel, newsagents, toys, cosmetics, sports, jewellery, perfumes.
Baggage- Trolleys and porters available throughout the enclosure. The lost and found office is handled by the police department (Tel +1 734 942 3669).
Other Services- Children's playground, baby changing facilities, shoeshines, spa, relax areas.


There are several parking lots for short and long stays. There are valet parking services, courtesy shuttle buses to every lot and free zones at both ends of the enclosure for passenger pick-up (Cell Phone Lots). More information: Tel +1 800 642 1978. Fees

Big Blue Deck & McNamara Terminal Parking - Multi-storey facilities located in front of each terminal, with spaces for short and long stays and charging stations for electric vehicles.
Green Lot 1 & 2 - Outdoor areas for long periods.


Facilities include moving walkways, adapted telephones, relief areas for service animals, accessible restrooms and designated parking spaces. Transport services inside the airport are accessible for passengers with reduced mobility. Inform your airline in advance if you should require wheelchairs.
