O'Hare International Airport, opened in 1955, is one of the busiest in the world and represents a national air transportation hub for the United States. It also operates with several international destinations in neighboring countries, Central America, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Number of Terminals - 4 - Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5 International, open around the clock. A free train system (ATS) connects the terminals with each other, the parking lots and the bus stop every 5-20 minutes, 24 hours a day.
Annual passenger traffic: Around 78 million passengers went through it in 2016.

The airport is located 27 km (17 miles) to the northwest of the city of Chicago.

Bus - Different public services are available to the city, departing from the station located in car park E, accessed through the ATS train. There are also regional buses that leave from level 1 of the main parking lot. On the other hand, Go Airport Express (Tel +1 888 284 3826) provides door-to-door services to and from the airport and most city and suburban neighborhoods, leaving every 10-15 minutes from outside the baggage reclaim area of each terminal.

Train - CTA's Blue Line (Tel +1 312 836 7000) offers 24-hour services from the station situated on the lower level of Terminal 2, with a fare of USD5.00. It runs to Forest Park through downtown Chicago (journey time: 45 minutes). Stops include Rosemont, Cumberland, Harlem, Jefferson Park, Montrose, Irving Park, Addison, Belmont, Logan Square, Damen, Monroe, Racine, Pulaski, Cicero, Austin and Oak Park.
From the transfer station, adjacent to parking lot E, you can board trains from Metra North Central (Tel +1 312 322 6777) to Union Station (35 min.; USD6.00) and the central-northern suburbs, such as Rosemont, Vernon Hills, Mundelien, Round Lake Beach and Antioch.

Taxi - Metered cabs on the lower level of every terminal, outside the baggage recollection area. Fares to downtown Chicago are around USD30.00-40.00 and the trip takes 30-45 minutes. There are also shared services with a fixed fare of USD24.00. All car rental companies operating at the enclosure provide 24-hour complimentary shuttle services from the lower level of the terminals, outside the baggage reclaim area.

The airport has banks, currency exchange bureaus, ATMs, mailboxes, VIP lounges, charging stations for mobile devices, public telephones and Wi-Fi access free of charge for 30 minutes (or a pre-paid premium service). At the Hilton Chicago O’Hare Airport hotel, situated across from Terminal 2, there is a business center and meeting rooms.

Food and Drinks- All terminals have a large variety of restaurants, bars, fast food outlets and cafés, some of them open 24 hours a day.
Shopping- Duty-free shops in the Departures area of terminals 1, 2 and 3. There are also convenience stores, souvenirs, electronics, clothing and accessories, cosmetics, sweets, books, newspapers and magazines, jewellery, sport goods.
Baggage- On the upper level of every terminal there are desks from the Chicago police for enquiries about objects lost in the public area (Tel +1 773 686 2385).
Other Services- Medical center, yoga room, nursing rooms, chapel, children's playground, art exhibits, garden, spas, shoeshines, barber shop, lotteries.

 

The enclosure has several parking areas for short and long stays. In front of all terminals there are passenger pick-up and drop-off zones. Main Garage - Facility adjacent to the domestic terminals. Short-term parking on level 1, long-term on levels 2 through 6. Valet parking is available.
Economy Lots E, G & H - Long-term areas, with 24-hour shuttle buses to sector E, where you can board the ATS system to the terminals.
International Lot D - Located next to Terminal 5, with outdoor spaces for short stays.

 

Facilities include ramps, lifts, adapted toilets and telephones, Braille signage, reserved parking spaces, relief areas for service animals, special lanes in the security controls. Public transport systems are accessible for passengers with reduced mobility. Travellers requiring special assistance or wheelchairs should inform their airline about their particular needs before their journey.
