Augusto Calderón Sandino International Airport, opened on July 4, 1968, is the most important in Nicaragua and serves not only the capital, but the entire country. It operates with domestic and international flights to destinations in North America and Central America.

The airport has ATMs, banks, currency exchange bureaus (5:00 am to 11:00 pm) and free Wi-Fi access. The Sala VIP lounge is located on the second level, next to the boarding gates, and opens from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm; it has TV, Wi-Fi, computers, drinks, private cabins, children's area (it is accessed by paying at the door - USD30.00).

Public and private transportation

Bus - Line 266 runs to the city every 15 minutes between 5:30 am and 9:00 pm. It links Las Mercedes with Mercado Oriental, stopping at the airport and several locations along Carretera Norte.
Nica Shuttle (Tel +505 2552 4835) operates minibuses to Managua, Granada, Masaya, San Jorge, San Juan del Sur, León, Chinandega and Potosí.

Taxi - Ranks are located outside the building. The trip to the city centre takes approximately 20 minutes.
