London Stansted Airport, opened on August 7, 1943, is one of the busiest in the United Kingdom and is mostly used for low-cost flights. It operates with domestic and international destinations within Europe, Northern Africa and North America.

Number of Terminals - 1 - Open 24 hours a day. A free train service connects the different areas of the terminal.

The airport is located in Essex, 48 km (30 miles) to the northeast of London.

Bus - Stops are located in front of the terminal and tickets can be purchased at a counter situated in the Arrivals Hall. National Express (Tel +44 871 781 8181) has numerous services from the enclosure: A6 - every 15 minutes to Paddington (58-98 min. journey; £12.00); A7 - to Victoria Station every 15 min. (75-100 min.; £13.00); A8 - to Liverpool Street every 20 min. (65-85 min.; £8.00); A9 - every 30 min. to Stratford (45-60 min.; £8.00); A50 - to Victoria in 105 min.; every 30 min.; 727 - to Cambridge, Thetford, Norwich, Heathrow (90 min.; £25.00), Gatwick (3 hours and 10 min.; £33.70) and Brighton every 2 hours; 737 - to Oxford, Hemel Hempstead and High Wycombe with a frequency of 2 hours; 349/350 - they leave twice a day to Nottingham, Leicester and Liverpool; 777 - departs every 2 hours to Birmingham via Luton (80 min.; £16.00), Milton Keynes and Coventry; 250 - every 2 hours to Ipswich, Colchester and Heathrow. On the other hand, bus 767 from Stansted Citylink (Tel +44 330 123 2004) runs to Kings Cross every 30 min., with a travel time of 70-100 min. and a fare of £10.00. There are also services from Airport Bus Express (Tel +44 127 968 1982) to London Bridge, Stratford and Victoria for £10.00, with frequencies of 30 min.

Train - The station is found directly below the terminal. The Stansted Express (Tel +44 345 600 7245) departs every 15 minutes between 5:30 am and 0:30 am to Liverpool Street (47 min. trip), with stops at Tottenham Hale and Stratford, where you can make connections to the city's metro system. Tickets have a cost of £16.60. CrossCountry Trains (Tel +44 871 244 2389) provide transportation to Cambridgeshire and the Midlands, with connections to the North and Scotland. Destinations include Audley End, Cambridge, Ely, Peterborough, Leicester and Birmingham.

- The official operator is 24x7 Taxis (Tel +44 127 966 1111), with cabs around the clock and a desk in the International Arrivals Hall. In the domestic baggage reclaim area there are also courtesy phones to make reservations. The trip to downtown London takes around 1 hour and has a fare of £99.00.


Car rental counters are located in a separate building, connected to the terminal through complimentary shuttles every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day. The airport has ATMs, currency exchange bureaus, mailboxes, public telephones, internet kiosks and 4 hours of free Wi-Fi access. The United Business Centre is located in Endeavour House, a short distance away from the terminal, and has meeting rooms and secretarial services. The Escape Lounge is located in the Departures area, opens from 4:00 am to 8:30 pm and costs £25.00; it provides complimentary cold and hot buffet food, drinks, newspapers and magazines, Wi-Fi, charging stations, TV.

Food and Drinks- Throughout the terminal you can find fast food outlets, restaurants, bars and cafés. Harris + Hoole, Pret and Starbucks, in the Departures Hall, and M&S Simply Food, before the security control, open 24 hours a day.
Shopping- Duty-free shops in the Departures area, in addition to stores selling cosmetics, electronics, apparel, accessories, souvenirs, toys, jewellery, books, newspapers, magazines.
Baggage- Free trolleys in the terminal, car parks and the train and bus stations. Secure wrapping, luggage storage, porters and lost property office 24 hours a day in the International Arrivals area (Tel +44 330 223 0893).

Short Stay - Spaces located next to the main building.
Mid Stay - Courtesy shuttle buses every 10 minutes. The first hour has no cost.
Long Stay - Car park connected to the terminal through free shuttles every 15 min.
JetParks - Economy lot with complimentary buses every 15 min., ideal for stays of 1 or 2 weeks.
