Barcelona - El Prat airport (BCN)

Barcelona-El Prat Airport, opened in 1927, is the most important in Catalonia and the second busiest in the country, behind Madrid Barajas airport. It operates with domestic and international flights to destinations around the globe. It is the base of the company Vueling and the future company of transcontinental LowCost flights  of Iberia. Among other transcontinental flights, it has 4 daily direct flights to New York (American, United, Delta and Norwegian), the 2 to Buenos Aires (Aerolineas Argentinas and LowCost_Iberia) and the route with Dubai, operated with 2 A380, the largest aircraft in the world.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Terminals 1 and 2, open 24 hours a day. A free shuttle service connects both terminals and the long-term parking area with a frequency of 4-20 minutes.

The airport is located 3 km (2 miles) away from the Port of Barcelona, 12 km (8 miles) to the southwest of the city centre.

Bus - Several lines are available to downtown Barcelona, nearby cities and different locations throughout Catalonia and Andorra. The easiest way to get to the city centre is via the express services A1 and A2 from Aerobús (Tel +34 902 100 104). These run to Plaza Catalunya from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, respectively, with frequencies of 5-10 minutes between 5:35 am and 1:00 am, a journey time of 35 min. and a fare of €5.90.

Train - Line R2 Norte from Renfe (Tel +34 902 320 320) leaves from in front of Terminal 2. It operates from 5:42 am to 11:38 pm, with a frequency of 30 minutes, and travels to El Prat de Llobregat (7 min.), Barcelona-Sants (20 min.), Barcelona-Passeig de Gràcia (27 min.) and Granollers Centre (58 min.) The trip to the city centre has a fare of €2.15. Other stops include Sant Andreu Comtal, La Llagosta, Montmeló, Cardedeu, Sant Celoni, Gualba and Maçanet-Massanes.

Metro - TMB (Tel +34 902 075 027) operates line L9 Sud, that links the airport with Zona Universitària, stopping at Collblanc, Torrassa, Can Tries/Gornal, Europa/Fira, Parc Logístic, Mercabarna, Les Moreres, El Prat Estació, Cèntric, Parc Nou and Mas Blau. It leaves from 5:00 am to 0:00 am and tickets have a cost of €4.50.

Taxi - Ranks are found opposite the Arrivals area of Terminal 1, the Corredor Barcelona-Madrid, and concourses A and B of Terminal 2. Travel time to Barcelona city centre is 20-30 minutes, with a fare of €29.00. More information: Tel +34 932 235 151.

The airport has banks, ATMs, currency exchange bureaus, postboxes, VIP lounges, charging stations, public telephones and free Wi-Fi access. There are business centers on level 1 of Terminal 1 and in the Cargoparc building, while meeting rooms are available on the first floor of Terminal 2.

Food and Drinks- There are numerous restaurants, coffee shops, fast food outlets and bars throughout both terminals. Caffé di Fiore, on the first floor of Terminal 1, is open 24 hours a day.
Shopping- Duty-free shops in the Departures area of both terminals. There are also multi-stores and retailers selling sweets, cosmetics, tobacco, jewellery, fashion and accessories, press, sport goods, electronics, gifts, toys.
Baggage- Luggage trolleys available at the parking lots, baggage reclaim area, Departures Halls and the terminal exits. Porter service (Tel +34 662 165 738). Luggage storage in the intermodal hall of Terminal 1, 24 hours a day (Tel +34 932 971 213) and the check-in hall of Terminal 2 (Tel +34 932 971 272), from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. There are covered and outdoor car parks for short and long stays, with security staff 24 hours a day. Next to both terminals there are also free and unguarded lots for motorcycles. Rates and reservations

Parking en superficie T1 - Roofed and uncovered bays linked to Terminal 1 through a walkway.
Parking Terminal 2 - Across from concourses A, B and C, 2 min. away from the terminal, with covered and uncovered spaces.
Parking de larga estancia - Covered and outdoor spaces for long stays, with complimentary shuttle service around the clock every 15-20 minutes (3-5 min. trip).
Parking Terminal de aviación corporativa - Situated 7 min. away from the corporate aviation terminal.
Parking VIP - The closest to the Departures Hall, with valet parking service (Tel +34 932 971 381).


Facilities include reserved parking spaces, elevators, moving walkways, ramps, automatic doors, embossed text and Braille signage, adapted restrooms and telephones, accessible counters. Personnel with knowledge of the language for the hearing impaired and bus lines equipped for the transport of passengers with reduced movility are available. Most airlines offer escort services for unaccompanied minors between 5 and 12 years old, from the check-in process to their destination.


On level 1 of Terminal 1 there are private suites from Air Rooms (Tel +34 933 758 600). Some accommodations inside the city operate shuttle buses to and from the airport.
