Shannon Airport, opened on October 24, 1945, is one of the busiest in the Republic of Ireland. It operates with destinations in the United Kingdom, the main cities in Europe and some flights to the United States.

The airport is located 24 km (15 miles) southeast from Ennis and 25 km (16 miles) to the northwest of Limerick.

Bus - Bus Éireann (Tel +353 6131 3333) operates line 51 headed for Cork (€19.00) and Galway (€10.00), with intermediate stops in Limerick (€8.60), Charleville, Mallow, Ennis (€8.60), Ardrahan, Kilcolgan and Oranmore. Route 343 runs to Shannon (€2.10), Limerick and Ennis (€8.60). Journey time to downtown Shannon is about 15 minutes. Bus X51 is an express service to Limerick and Galway. On the other hand, JJ Kavanagh & Sons (Tel +353 568 831 106) provides transportation several times a day to Limerick (€5.00), Nenagh (€10.00) and Dublin airport (€20.00). More information

Taxi - There is a reservation desk in the Arrivals Hall (Tel +353 6147 1538). The approximate fare to downtown Shannon is €10.00, while the trip to Limerick and Ennis has a cost of around €35.00.


Avis/Budget (Tel +353 6171 5600), Enterprise (Tel +353 6170 4914), Europcar (Tel +353 6120 6040), Hertz (Tel +353 6147 1639) and Thrifty (Tel +353 6170 4936) have counters in the Arrivals Hall.


The airport has ATMs, currency exchange bureaus, postbox, public telephones, internet kiosks and Wi-Fi access free of charge. The Park Inn hotel, situated inside the grounds, provides meeting and conference rooms. The Rineanna Lounge is found next to gate 7, opens from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm (until 6:30 pm on Saturdays) and costs €25.00; it offers refreshments, newspapers and magazines, business center, Wi-Fi, showers, TV.

Food and Drinks- There are coffee shops in the Arrivals Hall, check-in area and transit lounge. In the Departures area there is a bar that opens 24 hours a day and a restaurant.
Shopping- Duty-free articles on the first floor. There are also stores selling books, sweets and accessories.
Baggage- Trolleys available at the car parks. Left luggage, porter and lost and found services in the Arrivals Hall, from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm (Tel +353 873 285 935).

Short Term - In front of the main building. The first 15 minutes are free.
Long Term - Behind the previous lot, 2-3 min. away from the terminal.
Park4Less - Economy parking for long stays situated 7-9 min. from the Departures area. Only available through online booking.


Facilities include designated parking spaces close to the terminal, adapted toilets, escalators, lifts, accessible telephones, contrasting and Braille signage, sensory room.
