Pisa International Airport Galileo Galilei, opened in 1940, is the most important in the region of Tuscany. It operates with domestic flights and international destinations in Europe and Northern Africa.

Number of Terminals - 1 - Open from 4:00 am until the last flight.
Annual passenger traffic: Around 5.32 million passengers went through it during 2016.
Tel: +39 050 849 111. There is an information desk in the Arrivals area, available from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm (Tel +39 050 849 300), in addition to a touch screen with tourist information.

 

The airport is located 1.6 km (1 mile) to the south of the city centre.

Bus - There are numerous services from the enclosure. From outside the Arrivals area departs the LAM Rossa line from CPT (Tel +39 199 120 150) to Piazza Giusti, the central station, Santa Chiara Hospital, Pietrasantina Park and S. Jacopo. Journey time is about 20 minutes and the fare is €1.20 (valid for 1 hour in the urban network). They operate from 5:20 am to 8:25 pm (from 7:25 am to 8:14 pm on holidays). Terravision (Tel +39 069 761 0632) and Autostradale (Tel +39 023 008 9000) run to Florence for €4.99 and €7.50, respectively, with a journey time of 70 min. Transfers to Siena are also available, provided by Autostradale, with a travel time of around 3 hours and a cost of €15.00. Vaibus (Tel +39 800 602 525) offers transportation to Lucca in about 1 hour. Tickets have a cost of €1.20 and intermediate stops include Piazza dei Miracoli, San Giuliano Terme, Rigoli, Molina di Quosa, Ripafratta, Montuolo, Fagnano, S. Maria del Giudice and Pontetetto. It also heads for Viareggio (1 hour) and Pietrasanta (90 min.), via Migliarino, Torre del Lago, Bicchio, Principe Piemonte and Saponiera. Caronna Tour (Tel +39 366 126 0651) offers a service to Florence airport (€14.00), also stopping at Montecatini, Pistoia and Prato.

Train - The automatic service PisaMover connects the enclosure with Pisa central station in 5-8 minutes, from 6:00 am to 0:00 am, with a fare of €1.30. Trains from Trenitalia (Tel +39 892 021) leave from the city terminal to Santa Maria Novella Station, in Florence, with a journey of 50-60 minutes. Tickets cost €8.00.

Taxi - Ranks are situated outside the Arrivals area. The fare to downtown Pisa is €6.30-10.00 and the trip takes 10 minutes. Prices are higher during the night (10:00 pm to 6:00 am), on Sundays and holidays. The official operator is CO.TA.PI. (Tel +39 050 541 600).

Car rental counters are found in an exclusive building 500 meters away from the terminal, connected through a shuttle service. The airport has a bank, ATMs, currency exchange bureaus, mobile phone service, public telephones, internet kiosk and free Wi-Fi access for 60 minutes. There is a business center on the first floor with meeting and conference rooms. The Galilei VIP Lounge has a cost of €20.00 and is located on the first floor of the Departures area; it opens from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm and offers snacks, drinks, Wi-Fi, TV, newspapers.

Food and Drinks- On both levels of the terminal you can find restaurants, coffee shops, bars and pizza stores.
Shopping- Duty-free shop in the Departures area, clothing, accessories, newsagents, tobacconists, souvenirs, electronics, books, regional products, perfumes.
Baggage- Left luggage services at the information desk, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm (Tel +39 050 849 300). Lost and found office on the first floor, available Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (Tel +39 050 849 538).
Other Services- Medical clinic, pharmacy, spa, baby changing facilties, chapel, laundry, fitness center.

 

There are four parking areas open around the clock. Rates and reservations

P1 - Uncovered car park for long stays 200 meters away from the terminal.
P2 - Multi-storey facility in front of the Departures area.
P3 - Short-term area next to the Departures Hall, a short distance away from the check-in counters. The first 10 minutes are free.
P4 - Long-term lot 900 meters away from the main building, connected through a courtesy shuttle from 5:00 am until the last flight.

 

Facilities include designated parking spaces, adapted toilets, handrails, elevators, tactile pathways, wheelchairs, a special waiting room, ramps, dedicated lanes at the security control and ambulifts to board and disembark from the airplane, in addition to escort services free of charge.
