Milan Malpensa airport (MXP)

Milan-Malpensa Airport, opened on November 21, 1948, is the most important in Italy for international flights and one of the busiest in Europe. It operates with domestic and international flights to destinations throughout Europe, Africa, America, the Middle East and Asia.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Terminals 1 (Concourses A, B, C) and 2 (Concourses D, E), open 24 hours a day. Connected through a free shuttle that departs every 7 minutes (every 30 minutes from 10:45 pm to 5:15 am).
Annual passenger traffic: 22.1 million passengers went through it during 2017.

The airport is located 45 km (29 miles) northwest from Milan.

Bus - The Malpensa Shuttle (Tel +39 258 583 185) travels to Fiera Rho Pero in 30 minutes, to Milan central station every 20 min. from 5:00 am to 1:20 am, with a fare of €10.00 and a trip of 50 min., to Linate airport in 1 hour and 30 min., with a cost of €13.00, and to Bergamo and Orio al Serio Airport in 2 hours, with a fare of €18.00.
To the city's central station there are also services every 20 min. from Terravision (Tel +39 697 610 632), from 5:05 am to 0:10 am; and from Autostradale (Tel +39 331 519 000), between 6:00 am and 0:30 am; both with a fare of €8.00. On the other hand, there are buses to different Italian and Swiss locations.

Train - Malpensa Express (Tel +39 272 494 949) links the airport with Milan central station (50 minutes) and Piazza Cadorna (35 min.), with a cost of €13.00 and intermediate stops at Porta Garibaldi, Bovisa, Saronno, Castellanza and Busto Arsizio. The airport station is found on the underground level of Terminal 1 and is connected to Terminal 2 through a pedestrian walkway.
Trenord (Tel +39 272 494 949) offers journeys to Luino and Ticino in 2 hours and 15 min., with stops at Busto Arsizio Nord and Ferno/Lonate Pozzolo.

Taxi - Ranks are located outside gate 6 of Terminal 1 and gate 4 of Terminal 2. Fares: downtown Milan - €95.00; Fiera - €65.00; Linate airport - €105.00. The trip to the city centre takes 45-60 minutes. The airport has banks (Mondays through Fridays from 8:20 am to 3:35 pm, Saturday from 8:20 am to 12:45 pm), ATMs, currency exchange bureaus (5:45 am to 11:15 pm), post office, charging stations, VIP lounges and Wi-Fi access free of charge. Malpensa Center, in the Arrivals level of Terminal 1, is a meeting room for hire.

Food and Drinks- There are several options throughout both terminals, including coffee shops, bars, fast food outlets, restaurants and pizza stores. Briciole Bar, in Terminal 1, opens 24 hours a day.
Shopping- Duty-free shops and supermarket on the first floor of Terminal 1. In addition, there are retailers selling books, press, gifts, confectioneries, fashion and accessories, electronics, cosmetics.
Baggage- Secure luggage wrapping on the second floor of Terminal 1 and on the lower level of Terminal 2, from 4:00 am to 9:00 pm (Tel +39 3317 2301). Left luggage services in Arrivals Hall B of Terminal 1, from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm (Tel +39 274 867 277). Lost and found offices in the baggage reclaim areas.
Other Services- Travel agencies, first aid services, pharmacies, chapel, baby care facilities, children's playgrounds, smoking areas.

 

Inside the enclosure there are several parking options for short and long stays. Rates

P1 - Uncovered car park for long stays, 4 minutes away from Terminal 1.
P2 - Covered area with direct access to the check-in hall.
P3 - Roofed spaces adjacent to Terminal 1.
P4 - Economy, outdoor lot.
P5 - Uncovered spaces 2 min. away from Terminal 2, with courtesy shuttles to the other building.

 

Reserved parking spaces, pathways for the visually-impaired, Braille signage, elevators, accesible restrooms are available. Inform your airline or travel agency about your particular needs at least 48 hours before your arrival. Unaccompanied minors between 4 and 14 years old will be escorted by the airline crew.

 

Inside Terminal 1 is located the Sheraton Milan Malpensa Airport Hotel & Conference Center (Tel +39 223 351), while the MOXY Milan Malpensa Airport (Tel +39 294 757 100) is situated directly opposite Terminal 2. Between both terminals are found the Holiday Inn Express Milan - Malpensa Airport (Tel +39 3311 8330) and the Crowne Plaza Milan - Malpensa Airport (Tel +39 3312 1161). You can find several alternatives in the surroundings, some of them with shuttles to and from the airport.
