Bergamo airport (BGY) 

 

Il Caravaggio International Airport, also known as Orio al Serio Airport and opened on March 20, 1972, is one of the busiest in Northern Italy. It operates with domestic and international flights to different destinations in Europe and Northern Africa.

Annual passenger traffic: Around 10.4 million passengers went through it in 2015.

The airport is located 4 km (2.4 miles) to the southeast of the city of Bergamo and 45 km (27 miles) northeast from Milan.

Bus - The Airport Bus (Tel +39 035 236 026) travels between the enclosure and the city of Bergamo every 20 minutes Mondays through Saturdays between 5:17 am and 0:30 am, and Sundays from 6:28 am to 0:30 am, with stops at the train station and Città Alta. Journey time is 30 min. and the fare is €2.30. Autostradale (Tel +39 035 322 915) provides transportation to Milan central railway station and Lambrate station (€5.00), Rho Fiera and Brescia (€12.00). Orioshuttle (Tel +39 035 330 706) runs to Milan central station (€4.00; 50 min.), Fiera Milano Rho (€12.00), Monza (45 min.) and Malpensa (€18.00; 1 hour and 45 min.) Buses from Terravision (Tel +39 331 299 9450) travel to Cologno Monzese and Milan central station (€5.00) every 20-30 min. between 4:05 am and 1:00 am, with a trip of 1 hour. There are also daily services from Sadem (Tel +39 800 801 600) to Turin, with intermediate stops at Novara and Santhià. Tickets have a cost of €25.00. Flixbus (Tel +39 029 475 9208) operates different lines: 406 to Verona, Vicenza, Padova, Mestre, Udine, Turin, Trieste and Venezia; 407 to Peschiera del Garda, Gardaland, Trento, Bolzano, Merano and Turin; 415 to Parma, Bologna, Firenze, Arezzo and Perugia; 423 to Verona, Ferrara, Porto Garibaldi, Ravenna and Turin. Train - The closest station is located 10 minutes away from the terminal and is accessible through the Airport Bus. From there depart trains from Trenitalia (Tel +39 892 021) to different cities throughout the country.

Taxi - Ranks are situated outside the Arrivals area. The exclusive operator at the enclosure is Radiotaxi Bergamo (Tel +39 035 451 9090).

The airport has ATMs, currency exchange bureaus, public telephones and Wi-Fi access free of charge. There are two VIP Lounges in the Departures area, next to the security checkpoints (from 5:00 am to 8:00 pm) and in the shopping sector (from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm); they have a cost of €22.00 and offer snacks and beverages, newspapers and magazines, workstations, Wi-Fi.

Food and Drinks- Inside the terminal you can find restaurants, bars, cafés, fast food outlets, icecream stores, pizza places and bakeries.
Shopping- Options include duty-free items, apparel, electronics, jewellery, accessories, regional products, press, tobacco, cosmetics, sweets.
Baggage- Left luggage service in the Arrivals Hall (Tel +39 035 322 915). The lost and found office opens from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm and is situated in the Arrivals area (Tel +39 035 326 297). Secure wrapping is also available (Tel +39 800 1260 0086).

P1 - Outdoor area for short stays directly in front of the terminal.
P2 - Covered and uncovered spaces 100 meters away from the main building.
P3 - Roofed and outdoor car parks 1 kilometer away from the terminal, with free shuttle service every 20 minutes.

There are wheelchairs, ambulifts to board and disembark from the airplane, ramps, proper signage for the visually-impaired, special lanes and waiting room, elevators, adapted toilets and reserved parking spaces. Children between 4 and 14 years old travelling alone will be escorted by the airport staff until boarding the plane, and then will be supervised by the airline crew.
