Heraklion International Airport Nikos Kazantzakis, opened on March, 1939, is one of the busiest in Greece and serves the capital of the island of Crete. It operates with domestic flights and many seasonal international destinations throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Car rental search

Bus - There are services from KTEL (Tel +30 281 024 6530) to the city's bus station, with a trip of around 20 minutes and a fare of €1.80. They run every 15 min. from Monday to Saturday and less frequently on Sundays. The stop is found a few minutes away from the terminal. In Heraklion you can board buses to different destinations inside the island, such as Rethimnon, Kavros, Georgioupolis and Chania.

Taxi - Cabs (grey-colored) are available around the clock in front of the Arrivals level. Journey time to the city centre is about 15 minutes. Prices are higher between 0:00 am and 6:00 am. Bookings: Tel +30 281 021 0102.


The enclosure has a parking lot for short and long stays near the terminal building. The area is small given the airport's passenger traffic. More information: Tel +30 281 022 6980.


Facilities are basic, including ramps, reserved parking spaces and adapted restrooms. Passengers requiring special assistance should contact their airline at least 48 hours in advance.
