Sofia Airport, also known as Vrazhdebna Airport and opened on September 16, 1937, is the busiest in Bulgaria. Due to its growing traffic, it is under constant expansion. It operates with domestic and international flights inside Europe and the Middle East.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Terminal 1 (low-cost flights) and Terminal 2 (international flights), open 24 hours a day and connected through courtesy shuttles that operate every 30 minutes from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

The airport is situated 10 km (6 miles) to the east of the city.

The airport has banks, currency exchange bureaus, ATMs, post offices, VIP lounges and Wi-Fi access free of charge.

Food and Drinks- There are two coffee shops and a bar in the public area of Terminal 2.
Shopping- Duty-free shops in both terminals, in addition to stores selling cosmetics, accessories, spirits, tobacco, sweets, toys, fashion, jewellery, souvenirs, books, newspapers, magazines, flowers.
Baggage- Secure luggage wrapping in the Departures Hall of both terminals. Enquiries about lost property made online through the airport's official webpage.
Other Services- Prayer room, pharmacy, baby changing facilities.


Bus - There are three services from SKGT (Tel +359 7001 3233) that operate during the day. Lines 84 and 184 stop at both terminals and run to Christopher Columbus blvd., Tsarigradsko Shose blvd. and Gen. Gurko str., near the city centre. They depart from 4:45 am to 11:15 pm (from 4:50 am to 11:35 pm on weekends). Journey time is 35-45 min. Route 384 connects Terminal 2 from 5:50 am to 11:00 pm with Christopher Columbus blvd. and Druzhba 1 and 2 metro stations, with a trip of 25-30 min. Tickets can be acquired at a vending machine situated in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 1 or at the Razprostranenie na Pechata kiosks, in both terminals.

Metro - The airport station is located on the east side of Terminal 2. Line 1 from BDZ (Tel +359 2932 4190) travels to downtown Sofia (18-minute trip) and provides direct transportation to the residencial complexes of Druzhba, Mladost, Zapaden Park and Lyulin. It operates from 5:30 am to 0:00 am. At Serdika Station you can board line 2, that goes to the bus and train central terminals of the city in around 30 min. At Iskarsko Shosse you can connect to the Sofia-Plovdiv and Sofia-Karlovo train lines.

Taxi - The official airport operator is OK Supertrans (Tel +359 2973 2121), with offices in the Arrivals Hall of both terminals. The trip to the city centre takes around 15 minutes.

Inside the grounds there are two parking lots for short and long stays, open 24 hours a day. Across from Terminal 1 there is an outdoor area, while Terminal 2 has a multi-storey car park, connected to the Arrivals and Departures levels through covered corridors. Rates


Passengers requiring special assistance should inform their airline about their needs in advance. Facilities are comprised by reserved parking spaces, adapted restrooms, lifts and escalators.
