Managua airport (MGA)

Augusto Calderón Sandino International Airport, opened on July 4, 1968, is the most important in Nicaragua and serves not only the capital, but the entire country. It operates with domestic and international flights to destinations in North America and Central America.

The airport is located 11 km (7 miles) to the east of the city of Managua.

Bus - Line 266 runs to the city every 15 minutes between 5:00 am and 8:00 pm. It links Las Mercedes with Mercado Oriental, stopping at the airport and several locations along Carretera Norte. Nica Shuttle (Tel +505 2552 4835) operates minibuses to Managua, Granada, Masaya, San Jorge, San Juan del Sur, León, Chinandega and Potosí.

Taxi - Ranks are located outside the building. The trip to the city centre takes approximately 20 minutes.


Companies present inside the terminal are Budget (Tel +505 2263 1222 / 1068 -  24 hours a day), Dollar/Thrifty (Tel +505 2233 2192 - 5:00 am to 9:00 pm), Hertz (Tel +505 2233 1237 - 6:00 am to 9:00 pm), Payless (Tel +505 2255 9005) and Toyota Rent A Car (Tel +505 2255 7979).


The airport has ATMs, banks, currency exchange bureau, public telephones and free Wi-Fi access. The Sala VIP lounge is located on the second level, next to the boarding gates, and opens from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm; it has TV, Wi-Fi, computers, drinks, private cabins, children's area (it is accessed by paying at the door - USD30.00).

Food and Drinks- The terminal has a food court with cafés and fast food outlets serving national and international dishes.
Shopping- Duty-free shops in the International Arrivals and Departures Halls, in addition to stores selling handicrafts, accessories, souvenirs, clothing.
Baggage- Lost or damaged luggage should be accounted for at the offices of the corresponding airline.

The parking area is situated in front of the main building and is divided into covered and outdoor sectors, for short and long stays. It operates around the clock. Rates


Passengers requiring special assistance or wheelchairs are advised to arrange the proper services with their airline prior to their arrival.


The enclosure does not provide accommodation, but in the International Arrivals Hall there are reservation desks. On the other hand, the Best Western Hotel Las Mercedes (Tel +505 2255 9900) is situated across from the airport.
