Passenger guide - Colombo airport (CMB) 


Bandaranaike International Airport, also known as Katunayake International Airport and opened in 1967, serves the city of Colombo and is the busiest in Sri Lanka. In addition to domestic flights, it operates with international destinations in Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Annual passenger traffic: More than 9.2 million passengers went through it in 2016.

The airport is located in the city of Katunayake, 35 km (22 miles) to the north of Colombo.

Bus - A shuttle service operates every 15 minutes to a station located 500 meters away from the enclosure, where you can board intercity buses. Line 187 from SLTB (Tel +94 112 581 120) runs to Colombo central station (Pettah) every 30 min. and leaves from the airport's car park. Journey time is approximately 25 min. More information

Taxi - Airport Taxi Service (Tel +94 112 252 861 ext. 3097) has a counter in the Arrivals Hall and ranks are found outside the terminal. You can take an air-conditioned cab, which is more expensive. The trip to the city centre takes 45 minutes.


In the Arrivals area there are offices from Casons Rent A Car (Tel +94 777 312 500), Europcar (Tel +94 112 445 860) and Sixt (Tel +94 112 870 870).


The airport has banks, ATMs, post office, VIP rooms, mobile phone and fax services, public telephones and Wi-Fi access.

Food and Drinks- Restaurants serving local and international cuisine and fast food outlets in the Departures Hall and the transit area. There is also a bar and a coffee shop in the transit hall.
Shopping- Duty-free shops on the Arrivals, Transit and Departures levels, electronics, gifts, liquor, perfumes, cosmetics, candy, tobacco, clothing, accessories, toys, handicrafts, jewellery, photography.
Baggage- Left luggage service in the customs area and the Departures Hall. In case of missing baggage, contact the counter of the appropriate airline or the nearest information desk (Tel +94 112 252 861 ext. 3813).
Other Services- Baby changing facilities, medical center, pharmacy, spa, massage parlour, travel agencies, smoking areas, prayer rooms.

Terminal Car Park - Located opposite the main building.
Remote Car Park & New Car Park - Found 300 meters away from the terminal, they offer lower prices.


There are elevators, adapted toilets and wheelchairs by request. Passengers requiring additional assistance should inform their airline about their needs in advance.
