New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport, opened in 1962, is one of the most important in India. It operates with domestic flights and international destinations in most of Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and some locations in America, Oceania and Africa.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Terminal 1 (domestic and low-cost flights) and Terminal 3 (international flights), open 24 hours a day and connected through a complimentary shuttle bus service every 20 minutes.
Annual passenger traffic: More than 55.6 million passengers went through it in 2016.

The airport is located 23 km (14 miles) southwest from New Delhi.

Bus - The Delhi Transport Corporation (Tel +91 4140 0400 / 1800 118 181) runs a bus service with 30-minute intervals between Terminal 3 and the city centre. Stops include Connaught Place and Kashmiri Gate Station. The bus stop at the airport is found opposite the Centaur Hotel, from where free services depart every 15 min. to the terminals. There are also regular trips from the inter-state terminals in the city (Kashmiri Gate, Anand Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan) to all northern states and Delhi's neighbouring areas.

Train - The city is connected with most parts of the country by the rail network. The closest Indian Railway stations (Tel +91 971 763 0982) are Shahabad Mohammadpur and Palam.

Metro - The Orange Line from Delhi Metro (Tel Tel +91 1115 5370) is an express service that links the enclosure with New Delhi Railway Station in 25 minutes and operates from 4:45 am to 11:30 pm, with a frequency of 15-20 min. The airport station is located in Terminal 3, and intermediate stops include Dwarka, Dhaula Kuan and Connaught Place. Tickets available in the Arrivals area of the terminals.

Taxi - Meru Cabs (Tel +91 4422 4422) and Mega Cabs (Tel +91 4141 4141) have vehicles outside the Arrivals area of Terminal 3, while Easy Cabs (Tel +91 4343 4343) is present outside the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 1C. The trip to the city centre takes 30-60 minutes.

Carzonrent (Tel +91 1860 500 1212 / 114 184 1212) has offices in the Arrivals Hall of both terminals.


The airport has banks, currency exchange bureaus, ATMs, VIP lounges, mobile phone services, public telephones and free Wi-Fi access. Meeting and conference facilities at the Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi, located in the vicinity.

Food and Drinks- Several options are available (some of them open 24 hours a day), especially in the Departures area of Terminal 3, with restaurants, bars, coffee shops and fast food outlets.
Shopping- Duty-free items in the International Arrivals and Departures areas of Terminal 3. There are also retailers selling books, newspapers and magazines, alcoholic beverages, accessories, sweets, electronics, handicrafts, cosmetics, perfumes, fashion, jewellery, flowers, souvenirs.
Baggage- Trolleys available in both terminals. Porters in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 1. Secure luggage wrapping in the check-in area of Terminal 3. Left luggage service in the building connecting the terminals. The lost and found office is handled by the airport administration department, in Terminal 1, and operates Mondays through Fridays between 9:30 am and 6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm (Tel +91 114 965 2022 / 2023).

Multi Level Car Parking - Six-storey facility adjacent to Terminal 3, with 24-hour surveillance and a parking guidance system. Connected through travelators.
General Parking - Situated 100 meters away from Terminal 1.


Adapted restrooms, ambulifts to board and descend from the airplane, and reserved parking bays. Passengers requiring special assistance or wheelchairs are advised to inform their airline about their needs at the time of their booking.
