Passenger guide - Chennai airport (MAA) 


Chennai International Airport, opened in 1954, is one of the busiest in India. It operates with domestic destinations and international flights to the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Kamaraj Terminal (domestic flights) and Anna Terminal (international flights), open 24 hours a day. The terminals are connected through free battery-operated vehicles and coach services.
Annual passenger traffic: More than 17.7 million passengers went through it in 2016.

The airport is situated in Tirusulam, 17 km (10 miles) southwest from Chennai.

Bus - Line 18A from Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Tel +91 2461 5989) departs frequently to the city and the trip takes around 45 minutes, going through Broadway, Central Station, Saidapet, Pallavaram and Tambaram. It operates from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm. The bus stop is located outside the airport gate. There are also inter-state services at the central terminal.

Train - The Tirusulam Station is found outside the airport and services run to Egmore Station, in Chennai, every 20-40 minutes. Journey time is approximately 30 min. More information: Tel +91 971 763 0982.

Taxi - Vehicles available outside the terminals. In the Arrivals area there is a counter to arrange pre-paid services. Travel time to downtown Chennai is about 40 minutes.


There are car rental counters in the Arrivals areas. Aviation Express (Tel +91 442 256 1013), Avis (Tel +91 124 472 4850), Fast Track (Tel +91 442 256 0550 / 473 2020).


The airport has currency exchange bureaus, ATMs, post office, VIP lounges, mobile phone services, charging stations, public telephones and Wi-Fi access with no charge.

Food and Drinks- Restaurants, bars, coffee shops, confectioneries and vending machines.
Shopping- Duty-free shops, apparel, books, newspapers and magazines, local and luxury items, footwear.
Baggage- Free trolleys. Secure baggage wrapping machines in the check-in area of the Anna Terminal. Left luggage service in the Arrivals Hall of the same building. Enquiries about lost property should be directed to the offices of the corresponding airline.
Other Services- First aid and medical services center, baby care room, TVs, pharmacy, spa, massage chairs.

Passengers requiring special assistance or wheelchairs should notify their airline about their particular needs prior to their travel. The enclosure has escalators, lifts, reserved parking spaces, exclusive resting areas and adapted toilets. An ambulift is also available to facilitate boarding and descending from the aircraft.
