Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, opened on May 14, 1968, is one of the busiest in Egypt. It operates with domestic and international flights to destinations in Europe and the Middle East.

Number of Terminals - 2 - Terminal 1 (international flights) and 2 (domestic flights), open 24 hours a day and situated within walking distance from each other.

The airport is located 10 km (6 miles) northeast from the city centre.

Bus - There are minibus services that depart from outside Terminal 1 to the city only when they are full. Travel time is about 15 minutes and fares must be agreed upon with the driver.

Taxi - Ranks are located outside Terminal 1, vehicles being available around the clock. In addition to regular cabs, there are tourist taxis which are more expensive. Prices should be negotiated with the driver before the trip. Journey time to the city centre is 10 minutes.

 

In the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 1 there are offices from Europcar (Tel +20 106 661 1021 - 9:00 am to 10:00 pm) and Sixt (Tel +20 122 230 8295 - 10:00 am to 8:00 pm).

 

The airport has a bank, currency exchange offices, ATMs, public telephones and Wi-Fi access. The larger hotels in the coastal area, about 15 minutes away from the grounds, provide business services and conference rooms. The Pearl Lounges are located on the second floor of Terminal 1 and next to the check-in counters in Terminal 2; they are open 24 hours a day (maximum stay: 3 hours) and offer children's play areas, smoking rooms, snacks, drinks, telephones, Wi-Fi, TV, air conditioning, newspapers and magazines (access with Priority Pass, DragonPass or Diners Club membership, through online booking or by paying at the door).

Food and Drinks- On site are coffee shops, fast food outlets and restaurants with regional and international food.
Shopping- Duty-free shops (local goods, food, perfumes, tobacco, liquor), souvenir stands, bazaars, jewellery, bookstores.
Baggage- Secure luggage wrapping in the Departures area. Luggage storage and lost and found office in the Arrivals area (Tel +20 693 601 140).

In front of Terminal 1 there is a protected parking area for long- and short-term stays.

 

Facilities at the airport are basic, including ramps and wheelchairs available at the airline counters. Passengers requiring additional assistance should contact their airline before their arrival.

 

There are no hotels inside the grounds. The main accommodations can be found along the coast or in the city centre.
